Concrete & Film

This work explores the relationship between the sculptural elements of concrete and that of hand processed celluloid film. My aim is to develop a new language through experimentation with these materials and allow their physicality to drive the conceptual dialogue. I will explore the possibility of printing Cyanotypes (from digital negatives) onto cement and later sculptures. I'm interested in how the alkaline qualities of concrete fade the Cyanotype, reflecting the passing of time, and drawing on the landscape of the city. This exploration of time passing, and the nature of the materials used, echoes the impact of gentrification on working class communities, and more recently, the change brought about by COVID19 on the urban landscape.
